Plants keep growing and changing, engaging with their surroundings in ways unlike our own. Through the changing life of plants, I believe I can express shifts in human psychology and self-awareness — so I want to use plants not merely as motifs, but as a metaphor for the relationship between people and their environment.

Profile

Born in 2001. Practicing brush calligraphy since the age of six, she built a foundation in the aesthetics and line work of East Asian art. Alongside painting, largely self-taught since childhood, she travelled through Thailand, Nepal, Singapore and elsewhere in her teens — encounters with diverse cultures and landscapes that remain the root of her work today.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design from Yibin University, and trained at design studios during her studies, gaining hands-on experience in branding and package design.

Since moving to Japan in 2024, she has worked with a studio in Tokyo on global dialogue and collaborative projects with overseas travellers, broadening her range through people of many backgrounds.

Combining a sensibility refined by the brush with the theory of visual communication design, she works across both painting and design.

X.catttt

The “X” in X.catttt represents the first letter of my name.
“catttt” comes from a black cat I once had. He was very important to me, but sadly, he passed away. I chose to keep “catttt” in my name as a way of remembering him and keeping a small part of him with me.
For me, X.catttt is not just a name. It is also a small memory of the cat I once loved.

A childhood with my grandmother, そこに一株の白いand a single white キンコウボクがあった。champaka tree. (Champaka)white champaka

I spent most of my early childhood with my grandmother, and within that environment there stood a single white champaka tree (Michelia alba).

Through this formative experience, I came to recognise plants not merely as objects of observation, but as a kind of psychological anchor.

To me, plants represent one of the purest forms of life. It is precisely because they do not possess the complex social structures or linguistic capacities of human beings that their existence more directly embodies fundamental life processes such as the passage of time, as well as cycles of generation and disappearance.

During my university years, I had the opportunity to visit museums and art exhibitions in many cities across China, including Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Qingdao, Zhejiang and Kunming… as part of my university’s study tours.

While experiencing the diverse artistic expressions and cultures of each region, I became deeply interested in how the same subject—plants—can carry entirely different meanings depending on the history and culture of a particular place.

In addition, through growing and observing plants myself, I came to realize that the processes of their growth, blooming, and withering share many similarities with human growth and emotional change. This realization inspired me to begin this research.
